The Shark Is Broken announces UK & Ireland Tour marking 50th anniversary of the movie Jaws

CELEBRATING THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE ICONIC BLOCKBUSTER JAWS

WEST END AND BROADWAY SMASH HIT PLAY THE SHARK IS BROKEN IS SET TO MAKE WAVES ON A UK & IRELAND TOUR

FROM JANUARY 2025

THE SHARK IS BROKEN
STARRING IAN SHAW AS HIS FATHER ROBERT SHAW

Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 1975 iconic blockbuster Jaws, producers Sonia Friedman ProductionsScott LandisGFour Productions and Kenny Wax are delighted to announce the critically acclaimed Olivier award-nominated West End and Broadway production, The Shark Is Broken, will embark on a UK and Ireland tour next year.

Co-written by Ian Shaw and Joseph Nixon and inspired by Robert Shaw’s experience playing ‘Quint’ in Jaws, The Shark Is Broken is the brilliantly funny play which celebrates movie history as it peeks at the choppy waters behind Hollywood’s first blockbuster and imagines what happened on board ‘The Orca’ when the cameras stopped rolling during the filming of Steven Spielberg’s epic movie.

Starring Ian Shaw (Warhorse, Common) as his father, Robert Shaw, the UK and Ireland tour will open at Oxford Playhouse on Thursday 23 January and will tour to a further 14 venues culminating with a week at The Gaiety Theatre in Dublin until 17 May 2025. Tickets are now on sale at most venues with further dates coming soon.

Casting for the roles of Roy Scheider and Richard Dreyfuss are to be announced.

FADE IN: The open ocean, 1974. Filming is delayed… again. The lead actors – theatre veteran Robert Shaw and young Hollywood hotshots Richard Dreyfuss and Roy Scheider – are crammed into a too-small boat, entirely at the mercy of foul weather and a faulty mechanical co-star. Alcohol flows, egos collide, and tempers flare on a chaotic voyage that just might lead to cinematic magic… if it doesn’t sink them all.

Following its critical and sell-out success at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2019, The Shark Is Broken transferred to the West End in 2021 playing at the Ambassadors Theatre for a limited season where it enjoyed an extended run due to huge popular demand and an Olivier award nomination for Best Comedy Play. In July 2023 the production transferred to Broadway for a 16-week run at the John Golden Theatre where it garnered fresh critical acclaim.

The critically acclaimed manga musical “Your Lie in April” will end its limited engagement on Sunday August 11

The critically acclaimed manga musical
“Your Lie in April” will end its limited engagement
on Sunday August 11

The West End musical Your Lie in April has set an early closing date at The Harold Pinter Theatre, with a final curtain scheduled for August 11.

Your Lie In April made global theatre history with the simultaneous opening night on two continents – in the West End and in Seoul on 28 June. When the cast takes their final bows, they will have performed a run of 72 shows to a heartfelt and overwhelmingly positive response from critics and audience members alike.

Based on the multi-million-selling manga by Naoshi Arakawa, Your Lie in April is a romantic tearjerker, centering on young piano prodigy Kōsei Arima and his inability to play following his mother’s death. When Arima forms an unexpected friendship with violinist Kaori Miyazono, she slowly inspires him to perform again.

The Producers said today: “We are proud to have made history by bringing the first manga musical from the Far East to the West End and to have given the opportunity for the first 100% Asian and Southeast Asian cast to perform in a West End musical. Our journey from two sold out concerts at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane to a full West End production at The Harold Pinter Theatre (hosting its first musical since 2016) turned around in a matter of weeks due to popular demand. We are immensely proud of the show and the amazing work from the creative team, cast, crew, and musicians – and we thank them for their dedication and incredible work. It is particularly exciting to us how many people made Your Lie in April their first ever West End musical experience. And to our audiences who dressed the part and cheered them on, we say Bravo!”

Ticket holders for performances beyond 11 August will be contacted by email by ATG

Watford Palace Theatre and The Northern Players Company LTD Present the World Premiere of Two Of Us

WATFORD PALACE THEATRE &
THE NORTHERN PLAYERS COMPANY LTD
PRESENT THE WORLD PREMIERE OF

A PLAY BY MARK STANFIELD, RICHARD SHORT

& BARRY SLOANE
DIRECTED BY SCOT WILLIAMS

RUNNING AT WATFORD PALACE THEATRE FROM

13 – 21 SEPTEMBER 2024

AND HOME MANCHESTER FROM

26 – 28 SEPTEMBER 2024

Adapted from Mark Stanfield’s highly praised screenplay of the same name, and the centrepiece of Steve Marmion’s first season at Watford Palace Theatre, Two Of Us is an intimate exploration of what might have happened during the final meeting of two musical icons.

Starring Barry Sloane (Jerusalem; Boys From The Blackstuff; Call of Duty; Sandman) as John Lennon and Jay Johnson (Nowhere Boy; Wishful Thinking) asPaul McCartney. Audiences will be invited into a New York City apartment to witness the story of two working class boys who loved each other.

A play about reunions and male relationships, Two of Us sees Barry Sloane and Scot Williams working together again, having previously starred together on In His Life: The John Lennon Story for NBC in the US. Also, it was during the Broadway run of Jerusalem, where Sloane befriended cast member Richard Short (The Tragedy of Macbeth; Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan) where they had the idea for the play after listening to a podcast of McCartney talking about “his biggest regret [being] not telling John Lennon that he loved him when they last met” in Manhattan in April 1976.

“Men just couldn’t say that to each other then, it was impossible,” Sloane says, “and McCartney just wishes that he had held him and told him that.”It is with this sentiment that the play delves into themes of masculinity and examining male friendships. “We thought that was a great basis for a play,” Sloane continues, “and what we’ve written ruminates on what may have happened behind closed doors on that day.”

In 1976, tired of the spotlight, John Lennon chose to be a stay-at-home dad to his baby son, Sean.

Paul McCartney was number one all over the world with his new band, Wings, and about to embark on a global tour.

Once inseparable, both men were now worlds apart.
Six years after the bitter break-up of The Beatles, Paul paid a visit to John’s apartment in New York City.

Unannounced.

It would be the final time they EVER met.

The play is written by Mark Stanfield, Richard Short & Barry Sloane and directed by Scot Williams, withdesign by Amy Jane Cook, composition and sound design by Adrienne Quartly, lighting design by Katy Morrison, with audio and visuals by DMLK.

THE JAMIE LLOYD COMPANY ANNOUNCES A SEASON OF SHAKESPEARE AT THEATRE ROYAL DRURY LANE STARRING SIGOURNEY WEAVER, TOM HIDDLESTON AND HAYLEY ATWELL

THE JAMIE LLOYD COMPANY ANNOUNCES

A SEASON OF SHAKESPEARE AT THEATRE ROYAL DRURY LANE

STARRING SIGOURNEY WEAVER, TOM HIDDLESTON AND HAYLEY ATWELL

The Jamie Lloyd Company today announces a season of Shakespeare at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane with The Tempest starring BAFTA winner Sigourney Weaver, who is being awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the 81st Venice International Film Festival, making her West End debut as Prospero; and Much Ado About Nothing starring Tom Hiddleston (Benedick) and Hayley Atwell (Beatrice), both directed by Jamie Lloyd.

The two productions run at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, owned and operated by Andrew Lloyd Webber’s LW Theatres, marking the first Shakespeare plays to be presented at the venue since Peter Brook’s production of The Tempest starring John Gielgud in 1957. The Tempest opens on Thursday 19 December, with previews from 7 December 2024, running until 1 February 2025, and Much Ado About Nothing opens Wednesday 19 February, with previews from 10 February, running until 5 April 2025. Full cast and creatives to be announced.

The Jamie Lloyd Company also continues its commitment to accessibility, offering 25,000 tickets at £25 across the season exclusively for under 30s, key workers and those receiving government benefits. These tickets will be available across the first three levels of the theatre, and go on sale at a later date. Further information to be announced.

Jamie Lloyd said today, “It is such an honour to be invited by Andrew Lloyd Webber to be the first company to present Shakespeare at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in decades. I could not be more thrilled to welcome three-time Academy Award nominated and BAFTA and Golden Globe winning actress, Sigourney Weaver — an international icon of stage and screen — to London. Then to collaborate again with two of the greatest actors of their generation — Tom Hiddleston and Hayley Atwell — on one of Shakespeare’s wittiest and most tender comedies is a dream come true.”

Andrew Lloyd Webber also commented, “When I was nine years old I was taken to the Theatre Royal Drury Lane to see Peter Brook’s legendary production of The Tempest with John Gielgud as Prospero.  It made a profound impression on me.  At the final performance Gielgud broke Prospero’s staff and pronounced that Shakespeare would never again be performed at the Theatre Royal as it would be “lost to musicals.” Ever since I owned the Theatre Royal I have been determined to prove him wrong.  It is therefore a massive joy that Jamie Lloyd is bringing back Shakespeare to the
Lane and even more wonderful that the first of two Shakespeare plays will be The Tempest.”

Sigourney Weaver said, “I am delighted to be making my West End debut in Shakespeare’s The Tempest directed by the brilliant Jamie Lloyd – and to do so in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s beautiful and historic Theatre Royal Drury Lane is an extraordinary opportunity. Come and see us!”

Tom Hiddleston said, “Working with Jamie Lloyd on Harold Pinter’s Betrayal was one of the most fulfilling and meaningful experiences of my performing life. I could not be more thrilled to have been given the opportunity to collaborate with him again, this time on one of Shakespeare’s most warm-hearted and joyful plays: Much Ado About Nothing. It’s an honour to have been invited by Andrew Lloyd Webber to bring Shakespeare back to the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, in a season alongside Sigourney Weaver in The Tempest, and to be working with the great Hayley Atwell for the first time.”

Hayley Atwell said, “I am thrilled to be joining Jamie Lloyd’s company for the third time in my career. His bold and electric direction, combined with the warmth and wit of one of Shakespeare’s most celebrated comedic duos is a truly exciting opportunity and one that I hope will delight our audiences. I look forward to working with my talented friend Tom Hiddleston and bringing The Bard back to Theatre Royal Drury Lane.”

Tickets for The Tempest go on sale to those signed up for priority booking on Tuesday 6 August at 11am; general booking opens on Wednesday 7 August at 11am. On sale dates for Much Ado About Nothing to be announced.

Jerry Mitchell said ‘Becoming Nancy requires a lot of young fresh talent, and I’m so excited to introduce these incredible young performers to British audiences alongside some spectacular West End stars. This beautiful story about finding your true self and the spotlight each of us deserves is going to be a joy to share with audiences of all ages.’

In Becoming Nancy, it’s 1979 and David Starr is unquestionably one of the smartest, most talented sixth formers in East Dulwich – he’s got a wild imagination, a vocal range to die for, and a bedroom plastered with posters of his beloved pop idols: Blondie, Sting, and Kate Bush.  But being clever, with a great taste in music may not be enough to get him through secondary school, where, to his great surprise, he’s just been given the lead role of Nancy, in the school play, Oliver!  The unconventional casting sends shockwaves to everyone around him – including his parents, his aunt, and his classmates. Before long, it seems like everybody has an opinion on whether David should go on with the show, inspiring him to turn to his no-nonsense best friend Frances and his unlikely co-star Maxie, the enigmatic captain of the football team.

This exciting new musical, which originally premiered at Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, will be built and rehearsed at The Rep.

Park Theatre announce Cyrano as Christmas show

Park Theatre announces Virginia Gay’s Cyrano as Christmas show

The gender-flipped Cyrano plays at Edinburgh Festival Fringe at the Traverse Theatre before coming to Park Theatre

The north London venue has also announced Ali Smith novel adaptation Autumn as part of their coming season, and further Park Laughs show from Gabby Bryan

X (Twitter): @ParkTheatre | www.parktheatre.co.uk

Park Theatre has announced its Park200 Christmas show will be Cyrano by Virginia Gay, which plays at the Traverse Theatre as part of Edinburgh Festival Fringe before coming to the north London venue. The gender-flipped show sees Virginia as Cyrano as she falls for the brilliant and beautiful Roxanne, and plays in Park200 from 11 Dec – 11 Jan. Adding to their next season, Park Theatre is also announcing Autumn by Seasonal Productions, and Gabby Bryan will be part of their ongoing comedy programme Park Laughs.

Cyrano (11 Dec – 11 Jan) is Virginia Gay’s joyous, gender-flipped retelling of Cyrano de Bergerac, a big-hearted, irreverent rom-com, packed with music and wit. Cyrano is the most interesting person in any room – a wordsmith, a charmer. She works twice as hard and runs twice as fast as the pretty boys, because she’s deeply ashamed of something about herself. Enter Roxanne, with a penchant for poetry and a way with words, just like Cyrano, but with eyes only for Yan, who suddenly starts saying the most amazing things…

Based on the novel by Ali Smith, Autumn (16 Oct – 2 Nov) is set in summer 2016, when Britain has voted to leave the European Union, Elisabeth has returned home to the village she grew up in, and her elderly former next-door neighbour Daniel won’t wake up. New fences are going up, the library is closed, and elsewhere the sleeping Daniel Gluck dreams – of his long-lost little sister, of Christine Keeler; of art, poetry and music. As the divides between people become ever starker, Autumn finds connections across time and experience, and the resilience of the most unlikely of love stories.

And Gabby Bryan is joining the Park Laughs comedy programme on 30 Aug. Direct from New York (via Edinburgh Fringe), she is bringing her headlining stand-up comedy act for you, and only you, alongside global girlies Stef Dag and Chris Hall. Drink 1.5 espresso martinis before entering… and dress hot.

Park Theatre presents exceptional theatre in the heart of Finsbury Park, boasting two world-class performance spaces: Park200 for predominantly larger scale productions by established talent, and Park90, a flexible studio space, for emerging artists. In eleven years, it has enjoyed eight West End transfers (including Rose starring Maureen Lipman, The Boys in the Band starring Mark Gatiss, Pressure starring David Haig and The Life I Lead starring Miles Jupp), two National Theatre transfers, 14 national tours, seven Olivier Award nominations, has won multiple OffWestEnd Offie Awards and won a Theatre of the Year award from The Stage.

Ostan | Talking Shop Productions in association with Park Theatre

World Premiere

Written by Arzhang Pezhman | Directed by Gaby Dellal

Rebin has been stuck in the UK immigration system for almost a decade, which has given him plenty of time to get into a routine.

Work.

Play.

Apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain.

Repeat.

Work is the local hand carwash, under the nurturing eye of the manager, Destan, an Iranian-Kurd. The Iranian bit helps because the owner, Shapur, is very proud of his Persian roots.

Play is online gaming with friend Noah, a truck driver and loyal customer of the carwash. Though maybe not so loyal on the virtual battlefield.

Indefinite Leave to Remain is Gorkem. New worker, fresh off the boat. A Turkish-Kurd who claims to be the grandson of the Kurdish ‘freedom fighter’, Apo Ocalan.

Rebin, an Iraqi-Kurd with no safe passage home, just sees history repeating itself. While he stays true to his story and stuck in the system, he’s seen half a dozen like Gorkem make their way through the carwash, claiming ‘heroic’ tales of escape, securing indefinite leave to remain and moving on with their lives.

Rebin has heard it all before.

That is until the boss, Shapur, proposes using the struggling business as a front for a human trafficking enterprise. Smuggling immigrants into the country in the boots of the carwash client’s cars.

Rebin’s routine is about to be shattered. Indefinitely.

The Forsyte Saga: Parts 1 and 2 | Presented by Ashley Cook for Troupe in association with Park Theatre

World Premiere

By John Galsworthy

Adapted by Shaun McKenna and Lin Coghlan | Directed by Josh Roche

‘’Now I know what Soames did, what my father did, I will never be able to not know it.’’

London, 1886.  Wealthy solicitor Soames Forsyte is a man of property, and his beautiful wife Irene is his most prized possession. When he commissions an architect to build him a house in which to keep her, the cracks in their marriage finally begin to show, until something happens so shocking that it tears the Forsyte family apart. Years later, Soames’ daughter Fleur is haunted by the family secret when history begins to repeat itself…

John Galsworthy’s classic story The Forsyte Saga (famously adapted for television and recently for BBC Radio 4) is newly dramatized for the stage in two parts by Shaun McKenna and Lin Coghlan, bringing the unheard female voices to the fore for the first time. Spanning 40 years from the last gasp of the Victorian age to the beginning of the roaring 1920s, this is an epic tale of sex, money and power.

The Forsyte Saga Part 1: Irene and The Forsyte Saga Part 2: Fleur play across alternate nights and run consecutively on matinee days, featuring a cast of nine in a stylish period production.

Autumn | Presented by Seasonal Productions in association with Park Theatre

Based on the novel by Ali Smith | Adapted by Harry McDonald | Directed by Charlotte Vickers

“Whoever makes up a story makes up a world, so you should always try and welcome people into the home of your story. That’s my suggestion.”

Summer 2016. Britain has voted to leave the European Union, Elisabeth has returned home to the village she grew up in, and her elderly former next-door neighbour Daniel won’t wake up. New fences are going up, the library is closed, and her mother keeps talking about the latest antiques show on TV.

Elsewhere, the sleeping Daniel Gluck dreams – of his long-lost little sister, of Christine Keeler; of art, poetry and music.

From writer Harry McDonald (Foam, Don’t Smoke in Bed) and director Charlotte Vickers (Sap, Andromeda) comes an adaptation of Ali Smith’s Booker-Prize shortlisted novel. As the divides between people become ever starker, Autumn finds connections across time and experience, and the resilience of the most unlikely of love stories.

Going For Gold | Presented by ComeForGold Productions in association with Park Theatre

London Premiere

By Lisa Lintott I Directed by Philip J Morris
Cast includes: Jazz Lintott, Cyril Blake

Going For Gold is a riveting drama inspired by the true story of Frankie Lucas, a young black boxer navigating the vibrant yet challenging world of 1970s London. Frankie’s dreams of sporting glory face relentless trials as he confronts the intricate politics of boxing, the weight of his ambitions, and the pressing needs of his family.

At the heart of the play, we witness Frankie’s astonishing rise, marked by his early victories winning the National ABA middleweight title. But his journey is far from straightforward. When the path to representing Team GB at the Commonwealth Games is blocked, Frankie turns to his roots, competing for the island of Saint Vincent under extraordinary circumstances. His resilience and determination lead to an unexpected triumph that redefines his career and legacy.

Back in the UK, with his sights set on professional boxing, Frankie’s career is shaped by his association with legendary trainer George Francis. Yet, the road ahead is fraught with personal and professional challenges that test his spirit and resolve to the utmost limits. Amidst these trials, Frankie’s story delves deep into themes of identity, belonging, and the true essence of success.

Going For Gold explores the profound questions of what we fight for and what we leave behind. This powerful narrative invites audiences to reflect on the meaning of home, the bonds of family, and the enduring spirit of perseverance. Frankie’s journey is not just about winning in the ring but about finding one’s place in the world and leaving a lasting legacy.

Cyrano | Presented by Roast Productions in association with Park Theatre

London premiere

Written by Virginia Gay | Directed by Clare Watson

Virginia Gay’s joyous, gender-flipped retelling of Cyrano de Bergerac, packed with music, wit and aching romance, is a love letter to hope; to language and desire; to the irrepressible magic of theatre. A big-hearted, irreverent rom-com, perfect for a feel good Christmas treat.

Cyrano is the most interesting person in any room – a wordsmith, a charmer. She works twice as hard and runs twice as fast as the pretty boys, because she’s deeply ashamed of something about herself. Enter Roxanne: brilliant and beautiful, with a penchant for poetry and a way with words, just like Cyrano. But Roxanne only has eyes for Yan: hot, manly Yan; all brawn-and-no-brains Yan; who is dumbstruck around Roxanne. Probably shy, right? Until suddenly he starts saying the most amazing things. But it’s not Yan writing these perfect love scenes, it’s Cyrano …

Iconic ITV stars in new WWII radio play

World premiere tour of a new play – The Lion and the Unicorn heads across the UK with a star-studded cast

UK Tour: Wednesday 2nd October – Saturday 19th October 2024

Fascinating new drama The Lion and the Unicorn is set on an evening in 1939, just six weeks after war has been declared, at a private dinner between Winston Churchill, Neville Chamberlain and their wives, Clementine and Anne.

Prime Minister Chamberlain has seen all his efforts to negotiate peace with Hitler shattered, while Winston Churchill has been recalled to the cabinet after ten years, his dire warnings of the Nazi threat finally vindicated. History tells us this was the only time the four ever met alone – there is no official record as to what transpired during that unique evening…

This exciting world premiere – based on the book Dinner With Churchill by Robin Hawdon – is presented as a radio-play-live-on-stage. The setting is a radio studio, the actors ready as if for a radio broadcast, and the sound effects created live on stage, all combining to transport the audience to wartime London.

The play is brought to life by a star-studded cast of actors, including Brian Capron (Coronation Street, Where The Heart Is) as Neville Chamberlain and Tim Hudson (De Gaulle, Father Brown) as Winston Churchill. Corrinne Wicks (Doctors, Emmerdale) will play Clementine Churchill, Sarah Gain (Twelfth Night, Much Ado About Nothing) plays Anne Chamberlain and Frazer Hines (Emmerdale, Doctor Who) is Inches, the Churchill’s butler.

From the pen of Robin Hawdon (Don’t Dress For Dinner, Revenge), this compelling new play is epic and intimate, dramatic and moving. It also has a striking relevance to the modern day and asks the question, how far should one go to pacify a threatening dictator?

Martin Parsons, the director, comments, Combining terrific performances, huge historic characters and issues that are as relevant today as they were in 1939, The Lion And The Unicorn is a striking, enthralling and original play. Offering a behind the scenes glimpse at the most personal conversations in the corridors of power, the drama sees the characters sharing their courage, convictions and doubts about decisions that affect the future of millions – and asks what would YOU do in the same situation? An impressive new play that I’m sure will be hugely popular with audiences, and feel privileged to bring to theatres across the country for the very first time – plus to have such fine and popular actors in these iconic roles.

Previous praise for Crime and Comedy Theatre Company’s work:

5-stars! A phenomenal evening at the theatre, I can’t recommend this play enough! (The Entertainment Views)

4 stars! An immensely entertaining evening (West End Best Friend)

A master class in razor-sharp interplay (Henley Standard)

The Improvised Musical), Sarah Leatherbarrow (Miss Saigon) and Jez Unwin (Groundhog DayOnce, Ghost, Sweet Charity, Evita), making up the fantastic full line up of on-stage talent.

The extraordinarily talented ensemble company tell their stories as they all desperately try to carve out their own lives on Cable Street, when Oswald Mosley’s British Union of Fascists (Blackshirts) start to march on the East End. Over a hundred thousand Jews, Irish workers, trade unionists, the labour and communist parties, women and children all unite to blockade Cable Street – the road they all call home. As the people raise their voices with cries of, They Shall Not Pass, they take a united stand against hatred. The lives of the streets’ residents will change forever.

CABLE STREET is an electrifying reimagining of one of London’s most momentous days – when The Battle of Cable Street was fought and won in the heart of London’s East End on the 4October 1936 as racial tensions were running high and people took to the streets.

The Battle of Cable Street still resonates today, and the award-winning composer/lyricist Tim Gilvin and playwright Alex Kanefsky decided that CABLE STREET must feature a contemporary score: bringing to life a vital part of London’s rich diversity and history.CABLE STREET is Directed by Adam Lenson, Lead Producer Dylan Schlosberg’s 10 to 4 Productions (a production company dedicated to developing and investing in new musicals) and Producer Neil Marcus.
