The Stanley & Audrey Burton Theatre, Leeds has announced a new season of dance for autumn 2018, opening with the long-awaited return of Northern Ballet with a new Mixed Programme. The theatre will also host Phoenix Dance Theatre’s annual home production and welcome exhilaratingperformances from James Wilton Dance, Ballet Black and Ballet Cymru. Families are also in for a treat with the World Première of Northern Ballet’s enchanting new production for children, Puss in Boots.
Experience the exceptional with Northern Ballet from 12 – 15 September 2018 as they present their new Mixed Programme of dance from three exciting choreographers. This triple bill will include an inventive new take on Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons in The Shape of Sound by Kenneth Tindall (award-winning choreographer of Northern Ballet’s Casanova), an exploration of Nannerl Mozart in The Kingdom of Back by Morgann Runacre-Temple, and the choreographic debut of Northern Ballet First Soloist Mlindi Kulashe with Mamela…
On 15 October 2018 James Wilton Dance returns to Leeds to present a whirlwind of dance and athleticism in The Storm. Featuring a thundering electro-rock soundtrack and thousands of pieces of paper in a literal storm of confetti, this is a display of acrobatics, breakdance and martial arts that is guaranteed to blow audiences away.
Leeds’ leading contemporary dance company Phoenix Dance Theatre will bring their eighth annual Phoenix at Home production to the stage from 18 – 20 October 2018. Presenting a special re-staging of the world-renowned Troy Game along with new works and performances by Phoenix Youth Academy, this promises to be an unmissable presentation of dance.
Families can look forward to Northern Ballet’s World Première of Puss in Boots from 27 October to 03 November 2018. A perfect treat for little ones during the half term holidays, see the much-loved children’s story of an extraordinary cat come to life through Northern Ballet’s storytelling magic, colourful costumes and world-class dancing.
On 16 and 17 November 2018 the ever-popular Ballet Black returns for the seventh year running with a new double bill of dance. The programme includes the first dance adaptation of South African fableThe Suit, choregraphed by Cathy Marston (Northern Ballet’s recent Jane Eyre and forthcoming Victoria), and Arthur Pita’s Olivier-nominated A Dream Within A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
To close the season, Ballet Cymru will perform at the theatre for the first time on 29 November 2018. An adaptation of the Dylan Thomas classic A Child’s Christmas in Wales, this sparkling new ballet is narrated by Welsh icon Cerys Matthews of Catatonia, features original music, and will delight both children and adults alike.
