Darlington Civic Theatre heritage tour

Civic-Theatre-Hi-Res-Logo-1-117x300DARLINGTON CIVIC THEATRE – FROM THE BEGINNING TO A NEW ERA

On Friday 22 January Darlington Civic Theatre is opening the doors for an exciting and informative look behind the scenes with a special Heritage Tour.

Theatres are amazing spaces, especially old ones. As soon as you walk in to any auditorium you feel the warmth and history of the hundreds or thousands of stars who have appeared on the stage, you can almost hear the echo of applause ringing around the building, the atmosphere of anticipation of the production you are about to see is almost tangible.

Imagine, then, the opportunity to get a glimpse behind the scenes – the areas you never get to see as a member of the audience. See the technical areas and offices. Add to that the history of secret apartments, the dressing rooms (some of which are known to be haunted) and you have an exciting and informative tour of one of Darlington’s most wonderful and historic buildings.

There will also be the opportunity to learn about the forthcoming restoration of the theatre under the current Heritage Lottery bid – a chance to see plans for the project and discuss the benefits to audience members, touring companies and the cultural impact it will have on the town.

See Darlington Civic theatre as you have never seen it before.

The Darlington Civic Theatre Heritage Tour will take place on Friday 22 January at 7pm. Tickets are priced £5

Solo performance tackling mental health comes to VAULT Festival

The Lab Collective presents:

ONE UNDER
February 17th – 21st 2016, VAULT Festival

Amy wonders if she’s mental. She wonders this a lot. She’s not sure if this is a politically correct thing to say out loud – but she has been told that talking definitely helps. When Amy was four, her father jumped in front of a train. The event bleeds into her present, leaving a trail of half memories about the man that was; a legacy of wonder.

**** “It’s exhilarating to experience a production daring enough to trust participants with decisions that are difficult to predict – with genuine choices, not leading nobrainers” (Ginger Hibiscus)

One Under is a solo performance which uses treatment models and live gameplay to unlock how talking is a gamechanger, with the power to alter our genetic fabric and social norms.

“The Lab Collective has become a master of playing with its audience, adapting characters so to have maximum impact on their spectators (…) The Collective is not just putting on a performance, it is drawing on the audience, removing the spectator/actor barrier and talking with people about issues that matter. It sounds horribly refreshing and what theatre desperately needs.” (A Younger Theatre)

The Lab Collective create performance to engage, challenge and thrill our audiences. The work they make is intended to heighten the audience’s experience by breaking the barrier between the performer and spectator, whether this be an intimate one on one experience, or a larger scale performance. Much of their work is socially and politically engaged and asks questions about issues which impact us all, giving a voice to unheard stories – told not only by the performers – but by the audience themselves.

“An intriguing theatrical experience that will keep you engaged throughout”  (The Public Reviews)
