WORLD PREMIERE OF PRIVATE VIEW, STARRING PATRICIA ALLISON AND STEFANIE MARTINI, PLAYING AT SOHO THEATRE FROM 27 NOVEMBER – 20 DECEMBER 2025

WORLD PREMIERE OF

PRIVATE VIEW

STARRING PATRICIA ALLISON AND STEFANIE MARTINI

PLAYING AT SOHO THEATRE
FROM 27 NOVEMBER – 20 DECEMBER 2025

Speakerphone Productions today announce the world premiere of Private View by debut playwright Jess Edwards, will star Patricia Allison (Sex Education) and Stefanie Martini (The Gold). Private View, directed by Annie Kershaw, runs at Soho Theatre from 27 November – 20 December, with an opening night on Tuesday 2 December 2025.

You’ve changed me. You’ve fundamentally altered the fabric of my existence.”

Two women collide and soon become so entangled it’s hard to tell where one starts and the other begins. It’s messy, magnetic, and disturbingly familiar. Private View offers an intimate look into a cataclysmic love that burns hot and fast – and leaves a mark.

From debut playwright Jess Edwards, Private View is a sexy, cerebral, and unsettling exploration of queer love, coercive control, and the physics of connection.

Patricia Allison said I’m delighted to be playing A in Private View. Soho Theatre has always been such a staple of new, exciting work and I can’t wait to bring this play to life here in the heart of London.”

Stefanie Martini said “I’m looking forward to delving into the play and this love story. Soho Theatre is a really exciting venue, and Private View has a great team behind it.”

Jess Edwards playwright said, “I am humbled by the opportunity to bring my first play to the stage with such an extraordinary team of largely queer women. I am so passionate about bringing these characters into the world – in all their messy, sexy, electric weirdness. I hope audiences of all experiences and sexualities see something of themselves in Private View. I am both delighted and terrified to see it in front of an audience.”

Annie Kershaw director said, “I feel incredibly fortunate to be collaborating with Jess and such a talented, dynamic cast and creative team to bring this brilliant play to life. I read this play and found it to be wild, transfixing and scarily relatable.”

Completing the creative team are, Georgia Wilmot (set and costume design), Catja Hamilton (lighting design), Josh Anio Grigg (sound design), Ingrid Mackinnon (movement and intimacy), Jacob Sparrow (casting director) and Production Solutions Group (production management).

Private View has been shortlisted for the international Yale Drama Series Prize, the ATG Playwright’s Prize, and the Women’s Prize for Playwriting.

Tickets from £13 are on sale now via sohotheatre.com.

Lloyd Webber Harrison Musicals’ recent productions include the acclaimed, hit production of Evita at The London Palladium, the Olivier-Award and Tony-Award winning revival of SUNSET BLVD., and Starlight Express, which has just extended for the sixth time at Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre.

The ground-breaking production was the winner of the Olivier and Evening Standard Awards for Best Musical. In 1983, the Broadway production became the recipient of seven Tony awards including Best Musical. It ran for 18 years.

Andrew Lloyd Webber | Music

Andrew Lloyd Webber has composed the scores of some of the world’s most famous musicals. When Sunset Boulevard joined School of Rock, CATS, and The Phantom of the Opera he equaled Rodgers & Hammerstein’s record of four shows running simultaneously on Broadway. He is one of the select group of artists with EGOT status, having received Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Awards.

In New York, he recently opened Masquerade which brings audiences closer than ever before to his global phenomenon, The Phantom of the OperaMasquerade comes hot on the heels of the Tony Award Winning revival of Sunset Boulevard.

Reopened in July 2021, the latter was completely restored and renovated at a cost of over £60 million. It was one of the biggest projects ever undertaken by a private theatre owner in recent times. His mantra is that every penny of profit made from his theaters is put back into the buildings.

Lloyd Webber is passionate about the importance of musical education and diversity in the arts. In Britain, The Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation provides 30 performing arts scholarships every year for talented students with financial need and supports a range of projects such as the Music in Secondary School Trust (MiSST) and commissioning research into diversity in theater.

What begins as the search for a culprit soon reveals secrets closer to home, forcing him to confront truths that will test his courage, his family, and his understanding of trust, independence, and the wider world.

Inventive, gripping, and moving, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time combines the intrigue of a whodunnit with a powerful coming-of-age story in an unforgettable theatrical event.

‘Crowd-Pleasing, Life-Affirming And Unmissable’ – The Times

Playwright Simon Stephens says of the new adaptation:“The journey of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time has been an extraordinary adventure. It has taken me all over the world. From church halls to enormous auditoria. From school drama clubs to Wembley Way. I am thrilled that Christopher Boone is about to head out again through the United Kingdom. He is a boy defined by his determination and his bravery. This feels like a time when those characteristics are more urgently needed than ever. Ned Bennett is a brilliant director. I have wanted to work with him for years. I couldn’t have been happier that it is Ned who will reimagine my play for the 2020s.”

Ned BennettDirector, continues: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be directing The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. Mark Haddon’s beautiful story is uniquely tender and mischievous — a celebration of courage and imagination. It’s a real privilege to collaborate with Simon Stephens on his iconic play, which so brilliantly balances an exquisite character study with a thrilling sense of theatrical adventure. I’m tremendously excited to work with the teams at Melting Pot and the Birmingham Rep to bring this groundbreaking play vividly to life on stage once again. The original production was an utterly extraordinary landmark theatrical event, it’s incredibly exciting and an honour to contribute to the next chapter of this story’s journey”

Melting Pot ProducerSimon Friend, adds:“I read Mark Haddon’s novel when it was first published, and like most others, immediately fell in love with it. Had the National Theatre not got there first, I’d have been knocking on his door! But Simon’s play is so exquisite, so theatrical, so deeply exciting and moving in equal measure for audiences young and old, that we’re extremely honoured to be producing its first new production since that landmark event, and aim to live up to its legacy in a bold new take by the tremendously talented director Ned Bennett.”

Co-Producer and Artistic Director of the Birmingham RepJoe Murphy, concludes: “We’re delighted to be co-producing this powerful new staging of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time — a story that continues to challenge, move, and inspire audiences. At The Rep, we’re passionate about telling stories that reflect the complexity and brilliance of the world around us, and this production does just that. It’s inventive, full of heart, and speaks to the power of seeing the world differently. We’re proud to bring this vital work to audiences here in Birmingham and beyond.”

Cyrano de Bergerac Review

Swan Theatre RSC – until 25th October 2025

Reviewed by Amarjeet Singh

4****

Cyrano de Bergerac is Edmond Rostand’s 1897 romantic comedy play about the nobleman and soldier, Cyrano, who is gifted in every facet of life except his face. Supporting a large nose, his larger-than-life personality and strong will, cannot overcome the crippling self-doubt and shame he feels for this. Mocked as a child, his insecurities repeatedly reinforced, he squares up to and defeats any challenge, except to admit his love for Roxane. Distant cousins, they have grown together. Loving her for her intelligence and beauty, he does not believe she will see beyond his looks. Unbeknownst of his feelings for her, she falls in love with Christian, a soldier who falls short in romantic expression. The two men combine to make a whole, one lacking in linguistics, the other in looks. Working together to win the heart of Roxane, Cyrano writes letters under the guise of Christian. Cyrano employs all his poetic prowess, pouring out his true feelings to an unsuspecting Roxane, who believes its Christian who is romancing her.

Cyrano de Bergerac is brought to the RSC by director Simon Evans in collaboration with poet Debris Stevenson. Co-adapting the play, which is written entirely in verse, they have managed to retain the lyricism whilst adding a modern spin, delivering a production with fresh, emotional resonance that both honours the classic and breathes vibrant new life into it. Adrian Lester presents us with a magnificent Cyrano. He navigates the protagonists mixed emotions with ease and authenticity, balancing moments of bravado and razor-sharp wit with painful insecurity and fear of emotional exposure. Dazzling with sword and word play, Cyrano may be a brilliant soldier, musician and poet, but it is in the quiet pain behind his ‘panache’ that we are truly exposed to his depth, and Lester delivers on every front.

The contrast between Cyrano and Christian is clearly defined but not laboured. Levi Brown’s Christian is plucky and passionate, unafraid to face off against Cyrano who yields defeat in the face of Christian’s good looks and youth. Susannah Fielding offers a luminous Roxane, clever, quick, spirited, and keenly aware of her worth, yet haunted by an unhappy marriage ending in widowhood. Scott Handy brings a deliciously oily threat to the role of Comte de Guiche. He has a remarkably touching transformation by the end of the performance.

Grace Smart’s set and costume design are subtle yet effective. Swarthy curtains to evoke the theatre crumbling plaster walls are adorned with half-finished love poems and a disconnected oak, periodically shedding leaves like letters and never quite connecting in the middle, much like the relationships in the play. There is a wonderful joke which continues throughout, where a band of musicians Cyrano won in a bet, play Alex Baranowski’s stirring music whenever he commands. Evans and Stevenson have liberally laced humour throughout the piece, it’s both well timed and wickedly executed. Joshie Harriette’s lighting design is reactive to the rhythms of the text, shifting to reflect emotional peaks and poetic flights. The result is a production that feels both grounded in tradition and alive with invention.

This Cyrano de Bergerac celebrates the power and pliability of language while never losing sight of its limitations, particularly when it comes to expressing love and longing. It is a micro exploration on how we present ourselves to the world, the quiet courage it takes to reveal our true selves and the pain of things being left unsaid.

Curve, Bristol Old Vic and Mayflower Southampton’s co-production of KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN is the first major UK revival of the musical since 1992. The production will be directed by Paul Foster (A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC, Watermill Theatre and KISS ME, KATE, Sheffield Crucible) and will run in Curve’s Studio Theatre 3 to 25 April, at Bristol Old Vic 29 April to 16 May and at Mayflower Studios 2 to 6 June.

A new film adaptation of the musical, starring Jennifer Lopez, will be released soon.

Obsession or salvation? One kiss from the Spider Woman can change everything.

In a brutal prison, Molina – condemned for his sexuality, and Valentin – a political prisoner, are forced into an unlikely friendship in the cell they share. To escape their harsh reality, Molina conjures dazzling fantasies of glamorous movies, spinning tales of the seductive and dangerous Spider Woman. As their conditions worsen and the line between truth and fiction blurs, the two men find a deeper connection – one that could cost them everything.

KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN is directed by Paul Foster, with Choreographer Joanna Goodwin (MY FAIR LADY, Curve), Set Designer David Woodhead (TITANIC, UK and international tours, ABIGAIL’S PARTY, Curve), Olivier and Tony Award-winning Costume Designer Gabriella Slade (SIX THE MUSICAL), Tony Award-winning Orchestrator and Arranger Sarah Travis (MISS LITTLEWOOD, RSC, BEAUTIFUL – THE CAROLE KING MUSICAL, AN OFFICER AND A GENTLEMAN, both at Curve and on UK tour), Lighting Designer Howard Hudson (STARLIGHT EXPRESS, Troubadour Theatre, A CHORUS LINE, Curve), Sound Designer Matt Peploe (ROBIN HOOD, London Palladium, INDIGO, Curve) and Casting Director Stuart Burt CDG (SUNSET BOULEVARD, Savoy Theatre and St James Theatre, CABARET, Kit Kat Club). Lewis (author of The Chronicles of Narnia) whose orderly academic life as an Oxford Don is upended by the arrival of the spirited American poet, Joy Davidman. What begins as a meeting of minds becomes an uplifting and powerful journey of love and the fragile beauty of life.

The critically acclaimed production, originally produced by Chichester Festival Theatre in 2019 and directed by Rachel Kavanaugh, will have a limited engagement at London’s Aldwych Theatre from Tuesday 5 February 2026 to Saturday 9 May 2026. Further casting for the West End production is still to be confirmed.

Hugh Bonneville says “Under Rachel Kavanaugh’s direction, I am thrilled to be revisiting William Nicholson’s beautiful play about love and loss as we bring the show to London audiences at The Aldwych. It soon became a West End smash-hit winning the Evening Standard Award for Best Play, followed by a triumphant Tony Award-winning Broadway transfer. In 1993 the play was adapted into a major feature film directed by Richard Attenborough and starring Anthony Hopkins and Debra Winger, which subsequently won the BAFTA Award for Outstanding British Film.
